Winter Garden, People’s Palace, Glasgow Green
Glasgow FrontRunners (GFR) is delighted to announce the Rainbow Relay Run at Glasgow Green on Sunday 26 February 2017. The event coincides with LGBT History month, which is a celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual lives and culture.
The Rainbow Relay is a fun and inclusive opportunity that is open to everyone, whether they are part of the LGBT community or not. All running abilities are welcome. Each team consists of three members, with each member running 3k. Building up to the group dash to the finish line!
Friends, family members and colleagues are invited to enter with their own teams but if you don’t have a team, fear not! Friendly GFR committee members will arrange teams on the day of the event itself.
Participants are welcome to wear fancy dress or help us to create a rainbow-coloured run by wearing a t-shirt according to your birth date:
Jan/Feb RED, March/April – ORANGE, May/June – Yellow, July/August – GREEN, Sept/Oct – BLUE, November/December Purple/Indigo.
Prizes will be given to the best-named team and the best rainbow themed costume.
The starting point for this year’s race is the scenic surroundings of the Winter Garden, at the People’s Palace in Glasgow Green.
Richard Allwood, Running Events Organisers at GFR, commented: “The Rainbow Relay will be a light-hearted and energetic event, which will allow teams working together to support each other throughout the course. It also acts as an important reminder about the importance of LGBT equality, and the need to keep this at the forefronts of minds even in Scotland, where we pride ourselves in having some of the most progressive protection laws in Europe.”
The Rainbow Relay is the precursor to OutRun, which is GFR’s 5-mile running event in Kelvingrove Park in August each year.
