About GFR

What you need to know

Glasgow FrontRunners is an award-winning inclusive community based road-running group with strong links to Glasgow’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community and friends.

Using The Arc Sports Complex at Caledonian University as our base, we have 3 regular weekly runs that take you through the sights and scenes of Greater Glasgow. To help get the most out of your running, we offer runs that suit all abilities (generally split into 4 skill level groups on a Thursday). We have a full range of abilities, from absolute beginners, to advanced competitive runners who undertake half-marathons & marathons.

There are always jogscotland trained Jog Leaders on hand to lead the groups and to guide and advise you individually. Every week there will be a qualified Jog Leader assigned to look after your running group.

Walk to Fitness. Starting in June 2018 is GFR’s Walk to Fitness group. Meeting on Sundays the walking group is for those people who are not ready to run, or are injured, but still want to get fit. Each group will be lead by a walk leader. Sessions will involve walking at various paces, slow and faster to help boost your fitness. There may be a little hill, there may be a few steps, but there will also be lots of fun!

Social GFR

We are not just about running, we like to socialise too!

Answering your questions

Can I just come along?

Indeed, we meet just inside the main entrance of the GCU Arc Gym – there’ll be other runners and the committee there to meet you and give you any information you need about the club.

I've never run before, can I come along?

Of course, we have groups which cater for all abilities, starting with a 5km walk/run.

Do I have to be 'LGBTQ+' to run with you?

No; the main ethos of the club is that we are inclusive and our runners have a range of sexualities and gender identities.

Do I need to go to GCU or be a member of the Arc Gym?

No, we use the facilities at GCU Arc Gym but have an agreement which lets our runners use their changing and showering facilities for £1 per run. Lockers are also available which take a refundable £1 deposit.

Are changing facilities available?

Yes. Female and male changing and shower facilities are available at GCU Arc Gym for £1 per run (payable at Arc reception). There are also two single changing/WC/shower rooms which are gender neutral. Lockers are located outwith gendered spaces and take a refundable £1 deposit.

Are the changing facilities suitable for non-binary people?

GFR is an inclusive LGBTQ+ running club, and, as such, we welcome non-binary and trans runners. Although not an ideal solution for non-binary runners, the Arc Gym has two single, accessible changing/WC/shower rooms which are gender neutral. Lockers are situated outwith gendered spaces.

How do I join?

You can come along and run with us at any time. Your first week is free and then after that you can either run pay-as-you-go or become an annual member. For more information and an application form, see our membership section.
