GFR trip to Manchester FrontRunner’s Cake Run 2016

On Saturday 30th Manchester FrontRunner’s held their second 10k Cake Run. As last year, the event was impeccably organised. There was a great atmosphere at the start and MFRs made us all feel very welcome. It was also great to see so many FrontRunners attending – there was at least one runner from every UK frontrunner group, and a large contingent of Paris Frontrunners attending too. And, let’s not forget to mention their excellent cakes at the end.

The race is held in a beautiful park in the North of Manchester called Boggart Hole Clough. We learnt the hard way what clough actually means, it refers to a steep valley or ravine. Setting off is easy, it’s all downhill, but when you’re at the bottom there’s only one way left and that’s up the innocently named Angel hill – three times! Yes, THREE TIMES, what were you trying to do to us MFR? It was a tough course, but a real challenge and great fun!
In the evening MFR hired a function suite in New York and threw probably the best Gay Party ever! Great tunes and half naked Paris FrontRunners. What better way to spend a bank holiday weekend! We’ll be back next year, but only after some serious hill training!

7 members of GFR went to the event, 6 ran the event and Jason helped marshal, his decision was apparently nothing to do with the hill, honest! However, here’s what some our runners thought of the weekend:
Chris Darley: The Manchester Cake Run was a challenging course no doubt, but had plenty of enthusiastic marshals (and a drag queen) to cheer us on! The hills and the weather were all worth it for the post-race celebrations with fantastic company in a great city – will most definitely be back next year!
David Irvine: The run was a tough course with different weather for all three laps. Manchester Front Runners are an enthusiastic and welcoming group. They welcomed us into their city and it was a pleasure to run and party with them.
George Taylor: Challenging run on a hilly course in hail and wind. Not for the faint hearted. Festivities from the night before didn’t help. Well organised and such a friendly bunch of people. Great all the Frontrunners getting together. Party at night time was amazing. MFR were great hosts. Hope we can repay the favour at OUTrun.
