INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY
Women’s History Month highlights the sacrifices, contributions, and achievements of women throughout history and in the present day. ♀️
International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated annually on the 08 Mar. It originates from the International Socialist Women’s Conference held in Copenhagen in 1910.
The first IWD was held on 19 Mar 1911. The UN declared the 08 Mar date an official observance during International Women’s Year in 1975.
How we’re marking the day in 2025
The theme this year is Accelerate Action.
This year we're marking the day by raising money for Refuweegee. We’ll be having kit sale before Thursday training on 06 Mar.
On Thu 06 Mar all our jog leaders will be women, and our website will be purple.
Previous Years
In 2023, our member Charlotte Wylie led the 7.5K Thursday run on a route which created the women’s symbol as Strava art.
We also began our run that week by sharing a group photo of ourselves doing the IWD #EmbraceEquity pose, in which we wrapped our arms around our shoulders as if we were giving ourselves a hug.
